Some of the things I (often) think about are the many improvements we'd love to see done to our house before Ed retires. I despise clutter, and sometimes I just cannot stand the toys. Everywhere. In the bedrooms, in the living room, even in the kitchen. Our house is just too small for all this stuff.
On Monday, I devised a plan to convert our seldom-used guest room into a playroom for Elijah. Once I had a picture in my mind of what that might look like, I then decided that I wanted it DONE before Elijah's birthday party on Saturday. This was going to take some serious planning and work, but I figured if I dedicated a couple of hours each night, it just might be done by Saturday.
In a stroke of amazing luck, school was cancelled due to a power outage (100 mph wind gusts yesterday)! So we got right after it and finished the whole room today, 2 days ahead of schedule!
Here is a picture of Elijah's NEW playroom! The best part about it is that there is not a single toy in our living room right now. Not one toy.

As you know, we also have a playroom & boy does it get a lot of use! However, because I am your sister I feel the need to pin a tiny hole in your balloon: You're still going to end up with toys everywhere! BUT, at least you'll have some place to put them all when company comes over and at the end of the night :) At this very moment there are 3 toy airplanes, 2 rattles & 4 blocks in my bathtub. There's a baby doll stroller, books & matchbox cars in my living room. And I think there are a few stuffed animals in the kitchen :) Oh, and it's only 7:28a!
The playroom looks great, Sandy! And Elijah looks to happy in it!
What a great stroke of luck to have a "snow day" so that you could finish the project.
First of all, happy belated birthday to Elijah!
I have to agree with your sister. You know we set up the basement as a play area for the kids, but toys still find their way to every room in the house. It drives me crazy, but I try to remind myself that someday I'll miss those toys.
It looks absolutely fantastic, however. Great job.
Great job, looks like heaven for Elijah! He looks very happy in the photo.
I must admit to smirking when I read "This house is just too small...."......is your washing machine in your kitchen? Do you have more than one toilet? We live in 990 square feet. With no outdoor space. We don't have a single plant, because there is no room, it would just get knocked over. Thus, playrooms look pretty decadent! ha ha This is why I come to America frequently, to get my "space" fix! :-)
Funny you mention that, Julie. I did think of you and your small space when I wrote that. Then I thought, "But she lives on the French Rivera." And that was that.
Before Conor was born I had a child care business in my apt. Including Caitrin I had three other two year olds and a six year old. I remember that I rarely could see the floor due to the toys, books, etc spread all over!! The new playroom looks heavenly!!
