The 3 Musketeers Take Maine

While we were busy planning for and taking our vacation, back at the homestead folks were busy having babies! Here they are--
Sweet Caroline Grace, born August 5th .

And Adorable Savannah Elaine, born August 9th

Last week, we took our annual vacation with the Ginnetti/Rodriguez family. Sarah is my great friend from UVM, and her husband Sergio was born and raised in Mexico. They have 2 children, Diego (6) and Maya (4). When Maya and Elijah were still babies, we connected during their vacation on the Southern Maine coast. Following that, we rented a house together in NH for 2 years in a row. This year, we ended up doing something a little different. We originally wanted a beach house in Southern Maine, but got to planning a little too late, so all the desirable/affordable places were taken. We started checking out some areas a little further up the coast, and landed at a cute cottage in Orrs Island, on the tiny, narrow peninsula known as Harpswell Island. It was amazing. A very different kind of Maine than I'm used to-- no sandy beaches here. Just salty air, rocky outcrops and tidal coves. Orrs Island is a lobstering community, so everywhere you went, you saw lobster boats at work. It was very peaceful and serene, much uinlike the craziness of Wells or Old Orchard Beach in August. Very cool!

Meanwhile, Elijah and his 2 new best friends had tons of fun!

Throwing stones into the ocean at "Lands End"-- quite literally, the end of the peninsula--

Giggles and craziness and rough-housing galore! Thankfully, Sarah and Sergio have as high a tolerance for chaos as Ed and I. The kids had a blast! We decided that this is probably the first vacation together the kids will all remember, and we hope to have MANY more!

Sandy, the ocean views look beautiful! Makes me want to jump in a car and see it for myself! So nice that Elijah has some loveable playmates, who look very energetic, too! What a great vacation for you all, before you know what starts!! Love, Martha

It looks like just a beautiful island, Sandy, and that the three munchkins had lots of fun. I bet Elijah was excited to meet a real Diego!
